A Community Gathering Spot of Excellence PDF   E-mail
La Tazza Espresso Bar and CafeWhat does Pagosa Springs, Colorado get when two gentlemen who love food, an Italian Chef, a casually elegant atmosphere, great coffee and mouth-watering cuisine are combined with a vision of excellence? La Tazza's Espresso Bar & Cafe!

La Tazza is Pagosa’s newest addition to the food scene. It is a place to start the day with a gourmet cup of coffee and light breakfast or end the day with a healthy meal (accompanied by live music three nights a week).

Morgan Murri and Michael McTeigue, the owners of La Tazza, saw a need for a gathering place for people to meet and eat. They wanted to create a place where they would enjoy hanging out and so they developed the concept of creating a coffee house to serve a broad spectrum of Pagosa’s residents.

Then, Chef Fabrizio Ventricini, a chef from Rome, appeared out of the blue and La Tazza went from ‘coffee house with light lunch’ to ‘Full Restaurant’. While the range of service changed the original concept remained. Build a place where they would want to hang out; have a casual atmosphere; operate with excellence in service, food and coffee. Murri stated, “We take coffee and everything we serve at La Tazza both seriously and personally. Our Coffee is just the start of a great day of eating and living.”

A trip to La Tazza’s for any meal will leave your mouth watering for more. Whatever time of the day you stop by you will find the perfect meal -- a house-baked pastry for breakfast along with a great cup of World Class coffee; a bowl of house-made soup or sandwich for lunch; or a full course meal of Mediterranean food with strong Italian influences in the evening followed by desert and coffee. The wonderful food, casual atmosphere and friendly staff provide a relaxing treat for all your senses.

La Tazza’s mission statement: To offer healthy delicious food in a friendly atmosphere that facilitates community and gathering by offering excellent ingredients prepared with care and served with love and respect, for our customers, our staff, our community and our environment.

Oh! When you go to La Tazza’s for dinner, be sure to try the tiramisu. Hand baked by Chef Fabrizio, each bite of this heavenly concoction will have waves of wonder flooding through your mouth.

I have visited La Tazza 5 times now. Just recently we went for a Saturday night of Live music and dessert. The group Da Coda played and was so enjoyable not to mention the great desserts. We had a great time and so did our guests. I would recommend La Tazza for a great relaxing night out.

We went to La Tazza a few weeks after they reopened, having LOVED the food and atmosphere of the restaurant on our previous visits. The management promised a new experience after their reopening. We did notice a few things had changed. The prices are up, and the menu had changed.

Although the main portion of the meal was tasty, the "sides" were of low quality and tasteless. They offered some sort of "potato" that was essentially a nickel sized ball bearing, of similar firmness. Another meal was to feature Yukon gold potatoes....they were diced so small as to almost be invisible in size and quantity.

The wait staff was very good and attentive as always. The margaritas we ordered were terribly untasty. Our waitress quickly remedied that. Nonetheless, we were charged for the nasty tasting drinks.

This experience makes us wonder if there is a new chef. Or perhaps we caught them on an "off day".
